Crusader Kings 2 - Molotov Succession Game - House Hammer of Burgundaholmr

Players each take it in turns with the same save file, playing the reign of a king each. Thus, some folk might not play but for a year or two, and others might have a whole forty years of conquering goodness. Post here to express interest, we'll be using the Old Gods DLC, as well as all the other DLC - it's not an issue if you don't (atm) have it. Each player, during or immediately after their turn, writes an update (even if short and pictureless), then gives the save to the next player (see below). Once the last player on the list is reached, we go back to the first, and so on.

Starting in the AD 867, with the Sons of Lodbrok's Great Heathen Army invading England and Christendom under attack from every angle, we'll be playing as House Hammer of Burgundaholmr, a non-historical house which controls the Danish island of Bornholm, and vassal to Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye, Son of Lodbrok and petty king of Sjælland. With opportunities for growth north, south, east and west, and the ever-present threat of being snuffed out by Slavs, Franks, Swedes and Danes, it should make for an interesting game.

Confirmed Players:
Coinneach - King Holmger I - 867-875
Huojin - Current Turn
Orago
Cthulhuvong
Smyg
Seren

As many players as possible welcome :D Trouble installing etc can be easily helped with. As a final note, any editing of the savefile (aside from perhaps adding in an advisor character at the beginning of your turn, for someone on the forum who can't play) or cheats, are not allowed. Otherwise, it'd be too easy.

I honestly don't mind whether we play vanilla or GOT, but I think I'm leaning slightly more towards vanilla because I've been doing a lot of GOT, my AAR is GOT and it's more inclusive of non-GOT fans if we play vanilla.

So yeah. Vanilla, 867 start.

I chose a 867 vanilla scenario (or CK2 Plus i f anyone is interested) .

I usually like games where we start out as single county counts. Up to you guys though.

867! WE MUST CONQUER AS THE GREAT NORSE PEOPLES....of Ireland...>_>

This isn't a bad idea. We could do the Norse Count of Dublin. Or Bornholm works. Or if we want smaller still, Shetlands and all that jazz are tiny.

On a CK2-related note, I tried a game as Mercia (because my family originated there, so why not), and it's like, impossible. The Norse go hell for leather against you from game-start. There's a huge stack in Jorvik and Lodbrok's sons are murdering everyone, although I totally should've been able to kill one of their kings after I destroyed his stack.

I always wondered why they thrived. That makes sense.

Yeah, the game is very, very strongly pro-Norse. I haven't played for any length of time outside of the British Isles, so I don't know how they fare after a few generations of gavelkind, but the Norse tend to overpower the existing kingdoms pretty quickly.

In any case, we were talking on IRC last night, and Bornholm was decided on. It's a pretty generic dynasty and the character get's random stats, but I've started the game and should have an introductory post later on tonight, hopefully :D As far as advising etc goes, I shall encourage folk to part-advise part-roleplay their thoughts here in the thread. Updated the first post.

Was tempted by, but declined to use the ruler designer - which was a good idea as it turned out, which you'll see. \o/

Looking forward to reading the first part of the Hammer saga!

(I'm awaiting M.C. Hammer jokes)

It really is, and it feels distinctly faux-Scandinavian. :(
