OOC: To be or not to be?

Post by Huojin » 18:15:39 Wednesday, 05 April, 2017

So things have been progressing... pretty slowly with Louisiana, it's safe to say. Aside from very early in its run, Louisiana has not had much pace and quickness to it - something largely made up for in its depth and detail and the roleplays and stories many of your have drawn from it (some more than others, of course).

But there were player slowness issues issues in the summer and autumn when I was free, and since we've been ready to roll onwards I've had my own time constraints ramp up significantly. Not to mention a handful of things that have taken far longer than they ought to have - the Peace of Frankfort, which many of you have been following, least among them.

Suffice to say we've been going through a prolonged slow period that is being felt particularly keenly at the moment. In fact it has been 8 months since the last turn. So this is a kind of... state-of-the-game/how do you all feel about it post? Some of you will have lost interest, others will be amongst the games chiefest fans and eager to see it continue. But I'd very much appreciate some frank and honest assessments (brutally so if need be) or comments on the game and what the players are thinking. Not least because I'm very aware that we've placed the burden of sole running game on Gesar alone.

So yes. Input and comments please!

As for my own position and thoughts, since they will invariably be referenced by people... This game has been a major work for me, something I have adored deeply and if and when I set it aside, I will inevitably feel a deep loss. The world it build has been tremendous fun and I will absolutely return to it, whatever happens. My primary problem with it at the moment has been sustaining my love and enthusiasm for such a long period of time, and over so many peaks and troughs of activity (whether GM or player caused). At the moment, I'm undoubtedly in a trough. I could pull out of it with enough enthusiasm and support for the game, but equally I might not. My opinion is therefore a little unhelpful, and I am thoroughly able of being swayed either way.

Please feel free to raise further questions if you think doing so may further illuminate how I feel about the game and whether I want to keep on going. Or not, whatever you all like.

I'm still hoping for some naval battles and things to happen like I signed up for, really. But all the same, all of the action has been at the conference, which I haven't been involved in. If the direction of the game and what's willing to be run is in the direction of just the conference roleplaying thread, that's all fine, but it might benefit from focusing on that rather than the war and Louisiana as a whole. But I'm happy to just continue my own thing, too - I just haven't always known if it was even something that was wanted in the game.

On a personal level, I would like for Louisiana to continue. Seren did raise a good point (though I'd disagree, having a part in it, that the peace treaty was anything resembling the main action of the game- about involvement for players, however. Perhaps further investigation into that would help with motivation on all parts.

I should clarify I mean all of the action for a very long time, not the game overall.

I want the game to continue because I haven't done anything yet.

I would prefer the game continue - though as I'm a very minor character, not sure how much weight my own position carries. I've enjoyed it, despite being a bit of a sideshow to the bigger issues.

Hey guys, so I had been working on the final turn, but some things have dawned on me. Essentially, I've got a week left in the UK before I leave to go abroad, and I won't be back until late January/early February. Following that I'll be starting at a new job with intense work. And in between now and leaving, I'm preparing to leave, language learning, and trying to finish off my dissertation.

Long story short, I think I ought to call it quits on Louisiana. This has been one of my favourite games to develop and run ever, but I can't realistically keep dragging this on with the promise that the turn is right around the corner. We've already passed the one year mark since the last turn, and almost 5 months since we finished the Peace of Frankfort and I could move on with processing. Admittedly that was an insanely busy 5 month period for me, but even with that taken into account I've been lacking the drive to really pull all the elements together, even if I still think there's a lot of work on the turn already done.

I'm definitely planning a return to this world, with a CYOA style game in the offing sometime in the future, but it's time to know when it's had enough and say that despite everything, Louisiana should be laid to rest. If there's enough demand for it I can hash out some kind of epilogue, but we'll see. Apologies to those hoping for another turn and more to follow it, and many thanks to those who devoted time and effort into making this game with me. Hopefully I can bring you more from the world of Louisiana in the future.

Vive la Louisiane

This makes me sad, but I do understand. I'd love to see an epilogue.
