Papal Reflection on the Council of Lyons & expected Gesture from Constantinople

Post by scorpion » 00:10:58 Friday, 15 April, 2016

I come to this Court as I reflect on the discussions that took place in Lyon this past July.

One of the main topics discussed was the Holy lands and the perils it holds for us Christians. A possible Crusade was discussed and I would like to announce that the Papacy will start to accept donations towards necessary supplies, and the contracts needed to secure naval vessels needed to carry Crusading armies to the Holy land. A grant of indulgence will be given to participating parties. Along with this discussion came a declaration of peace among us Christians, and an acknowledgement of realms of control. As Pope I value this, now that Rudolf II has been crowned by the Catholic Church, the hope for stability in Northern Italy will perhaps become more of a possibility.

One of the greatest accomplishments of our council was the end the Great Schism that divided the Eastern Orthodox Church from our Roman Catholic Church. As I have asked Latin despots in the East to curb their ambitions, so now I ask that Michael VIII Palaeologus replace those who oppose our Union, whom still hold office. Most notably, the Patriarch of Constantinople. It is my hope that this is done in good faith, and as a sign of Eastern commitment to the Union of the Churches, so that the agreement signed will not be questioned.

His Majesty the King of Sicily, Naples, and Albania firmly declares his support for these endeavours, particularly the measure required of the Empire of the Greeks. The maintenance of a Patriarch of Constantinople so heinously opposed to unity amongst the followers of Christ is an affront to all Christendom. His Holiness' demand that the Greek Emperor seek the resignation of the patriarch is echoed by the court in Naples.

The Bishop of Rome has spoken. Carry out his will, Greek lords.

The Roman Empire of the East has agreed to the requests of the Bishop of Rome, We have made moves to replace the Patriarch of Constantinople with a figure who will support unification.

I am most delighted to hear that you have granted my request to replace the Patriarch of Constantinople with a better suited candidate in support of our Union. This show of commitment will not be forgotten. Let it be known, that the Greek Emperors choice of John XI of Constantinople to serve as Patriarch has satisfied the Papacy's request, and that his commitment to the Union of Churches is sincere in my eyes, and the eyes of the Catholic Church.
