UNGA: Israeli Intervention Into Lebanon

Post by Master of Oblivion » 07:35:46 Wednesday, 19 October, 2016

My friends in the United Nation, I must speak urgently to you about an issue that threatens the security of our world. Israel has launched a disproportionate assault upon the people of Lebanon. This conflict has led to civillian deaths and threatens to become a wider war. We therefore will introduce a resolution in the United Nations General Assembly in the hopes of gather enough strength to present a case in front of the United Nations Security Council
The General Assembly,

Guided by the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations,

Deeply concerned by recent events in the sovereign state of Lebanon

1. Deeply deplores the loss of life as a result of disproportionate Israeli aggression

2. Condemns Israel for its targeting of civilians and infrastructure

3. Calls upon Israel to withdraw its forces from the territory of Lebanon

4. Calls upon all groups to recognize a cease-fire

5. Calls upon the UNSC to increase the deployment of UN peacekeepers in Lebanon

The Russian federation notes there are No peace keepers in the region partly due to the arab league and others not wanting it. If lebanon wants peace keepers in the region it may then have to recognize that they will hunt down the groups such as Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah as well as others. This will not be solely to end the state of Israel's actions but to prevent further need of them. The Russian Federation calls for all parties to finally come to an agreement. This nearly 50 year problem has been walked around for decades and is no closer to a solution.

The Russian delegate is mistaken, as the UNIFIL Mission has been present in Lebanon since 1978.

Further comment from Japan will take place when we have had time to study the situation. Now that our constitution permits it, however, we are willing to commit troops of JNDF to peacekeeping under the auspices of the UN mission, assuming the appropriate UNSC resolution is passed, given Japan's neutrality in this matter and lack of involvement, historical or otherwise, in the Levant region.

Ehud Olmert, Prime Minister of Israel

The fact that Iran is the nation coming to the floor of the UNGA with this proposed 'resolution' is laughable. Israel came under aggressive action first, by Hezbollah. The kidnapping of, and harm that came to our troops will not be tolerated. Civilian infrastructure has been damaged as result of Hezbollah working from civilian, and government buildings. It is widely know that Iran supports Hezbollah's goals in the Levant. Therefore Israel cannot take Iran's proposal seriously.

If any ceasefire is to occur, Hezbollah should be completely disarmed.
