UNSC: Iran Mission

Post by Red John » 15:17:52 Tuesday, 30 January, 2018

The United Nations Security Council,
  • Pursuant to the previous resolution pertaining to Iran,
  • Once again condemning the Iranian regime for it's destabilizing actions,
  • Once again calling upon Iran to immediately rejoin the NPT, and dismantle it's nuclear weapons program,
  • Recognizing the increasingly unstable situation within Iran,
Therefore the UNSC:
  • Welcomes the support given to the previous resolution pertaining to Iran,
  • Calls upon all members of the United Nations, to support a formal UN military operation, which would see the establishment of a naval blockade and the enforcement of a no-fly zone over Iran,
  • Requests that the United Kingdom, China, and Japan, to establish a joint-command to oversee the operation,
  • Recommends that all Members providing military forces and other support pursuant to the aforesaid Council Resolution make such forces and other assistance available to the joint command,
  • Authorizes the joint command at it's discretion to utilize the United Nations flag in the course of operations against Iran concurrently with the flags of various nations participating,
  • Requests the joint-command to provide the Security Council with reports as appropriate on the course of action take under joint-command,
We ask that voting not occur until all members of the UNSC find the resolution acceptable.

Any flights taken over Iran by foreign military vehicles will be considered a violation of our sovereignty and will be responded to in kind. Furthermore we will ignore any attempts to restrict Iranian aircraft as a breach of our national sovereignty.

I strongly oppose this action taken by the UN. The UN is not meant to threaten physical harm to nations if Western agendas aren't met. The UN was created to keep peace, and is supposed to be sent to stop conflict, not start one.

The enforcement of a no fly zone is criminal. And military options are unwarranted.

I understand the need for sanctions regarding Iran rejoining the NPT. But to hold an entire government hostage under the guise of the UN is a step in a terrifying direction.

The threat of sanctions did not deter Iran, and UNSC members have already acted outside of the UN framework to launch attacks on Iran- something done so in order to attempt to halt their nuclear weapons program. The logical solution is to avoid further incidents by having the UN formally undertake a combined mission to enforce previous resolutions and attempt to restore the regional stability that Iran has shattered.

We would also remind the honourable leader Gadddafi, that China does not bow to western whims. Iran is undeniably in the wrong in this matter, and their repeated actions throughout the Middle-East was a massive breach of our own personal trust in both Iran and Syria.

Furthermore, there is a great risk of heavy retaliation against the Iranian people by government forces. Thousands died in the Iranian revolution that occurred not more than 30 years ago, and there is nothing to stop such widespread murder happen again under this regime.

China does not relish the thought of intervening in such a heavy-handed manner. Yet what else is to be done? The Iranian regime refuses to back down in face of sanctions, and refuses to rejoin the NPT, and again refuses to dismantle its nuclear program.

The United States will support the measure and will provide our eight naval units providing the current search and seizure blockade and an as of yet undetermined number of air units to the no-fly zone. However, we warn that there may come a time in which we will have to scale down our naval operations in the region and therefore reserve the right to pull some of our Naval Units as necessary and would recommend other nations provide naval units to this operation to ensure a consistent blockade.

Japan votes in favour. We will dedicate six air and naval units to the effort, and hope that the government of China will commit to a matching deployment as part of our joint leadership.

China will be deploying five air units and two naval units. We considered further naval deployments, but we believe the forces generously provided are adequate.

In total, then, the UN mission will have at its disposal: 15 Naval units, and 15 air units.

With the passing of this resolution, we must finally decide on a formal mission name.
