TREATY OF CZERNOWITZ
In the Name of the Most Holy and Indivisible Trinity.
His Imperial Majesty The Emperor of Austria, King of Jerusalem, Hungary, Bohemia, Croatia, Slavonia, Galicia and Lodomeria, etc., President of the German Confederation, etc., and His Imperial Majesty The Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias,
Taking into consideration their prior treaties and commitments regarding the matter at hand, and maintaining a view to the long-term maintenance of peace and stability in Europe as negotiated and enforced through the Congress of Vienna, have concluded for these purposes the following articles:
The Parties commit to consult on international matters of mutual interest to both such as may arise in Central and Eastern Europe, in furtherance of the goal of maintaining peace and stability.
The Parties commit further to render appropriate assistance when requested where such destabilising and dangerous elements may become present.
The territory compromising the Kingdom of Poland is firmly recognised as a sovereign nation in personal union with the Russian Empire, and as such the Parties recognise and affirm the rights of the Russian Empire to take all steps necessary to ensure its protection from foreign and internal interference.
The Imperial Russian Government acknowledges and affirms that the Austrian Empire possesses in the German Confederation paramount political, military and economical interests, and engages neither to obstruct nor interfere in such measures as deemed necessary to be taken in respect of that territory.
The Imperial Russian Government further acknowledges that both in respect of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor's personal position as President of the German Confederation, and in respect of Austria's role as Presiding Power, that the German Confederation shall benefit from the defence and protection of the Austrian Empire from all destabilising parties, whether internal or external.
The present Treaty shall be ratified, and the ratifications shall be exchanged at Vienna at the expiration of six weeks, or sooner if possible.
