Flashpoint: Antarctica

"Since, in the long run, every planetary society will be endangered by impacts from space, every surviving civilization is obliged to become spacefaring--not because of exploratory or romantic zeal, but for the most practical reason imaginable: staying alive." - Carl Sagan, 1994.

France is, understandably, willing to offer what support she can spare to this endeavor. Learning more about the extraterrestrials that threaten our world is of the utmost importance.

However, though we agree we must continue to express our reluctance on several factors. As the United Kingdom has said, this deployment is currently illegal by international law, and as it does not appear that the alien incursion will be ending imminently, we should not merely ignore treaties on the pretense that it will only be for the duration of the 'current emergency'. That way lies a dangerous precedent for the international community that France is not comfortable supporting.

We are also interested in learning how these joint units would operate in relation to the United Nations. Would this 'X-COM" be subordinate to the Security Council? How will leadership of both these units be appointed? We are not comfortable blindly following the superpowers of the world and assuming that everything will work out

[ooc I have no clue where to posted this and since it sort of is based off of this post I'm posting it here]

This is written in a way that states it has already happen since the UK is doing this with out telling anyone

In response to the UK's ships being unable to reach Argentina's territorial waters the UK sent several County-class destroyer to sit outside the Argentina's territorial waters Zone [hence for known as ATWZ] while a ship 10 clicks away fired a Seaslug Mk2 Surface to Air missile into the ATWZ on an arc that would allow the ships sitting outside the ATWZ to watch it as it went into the zone [the missile running out of fuel about 1-3 clicks into the ATWZ]

The British naval officers, the heirs of the finest Navy the world has ever seen, the goddamned Royal Navy, tremble in anticiption as the missile sails across the skies. The men whose predecessors faced down Napoleon and Hitler with a stiff upper lip know that this enemy is unlike any they have faced before. A non-human one.

The Seaslug enter Argentine airspace silently, as the world approaches its doom. The Flying Saucer warned Mankind not to use atomic weaponry, but what of conventional missiles testing the waters?

It dips down into the waters. No one is there to hear it fall, but the Royal Navy observers report back that it was an entirely uneventful day.

In Response to the missile strike the UK will send ships to PEACEFULY REMOVE ALL NON-MILITARY PEOPLE from the Falkland Islands and set up a military base on the island, sending in 400 elite men to man this new base. All governments of the world are welcome to [asking before hand] to send troops and supplies to the Falkland Islands to help set up said military base. The UN is also welcome to send peace keepers. This is in response to any possible attack caused by the missile test

All people removed from these fair islands will be moved to the mainland where they will be housed by the government in unsold houses paided for by the government and will be given 50,000 pound allowance paided over 12 months per year for any incovence caused by this sudden removal [occ note the population IRL is only 3k in 2016 so I'm betting its less than 1k in 1969]

[GM Clarification: There is slightly below 2,000 people in the Falklands Islands. They are British Dependent Territories citizens, not British citizens.]

Sir Cosmo Dugal Patrick Thomas Haskard
Governor of the Falkland Islands

It is with a heavy heart that I, in my position as Governor of the Falkland Islands, commence the evacuation of all civilians in the territory. Born in the city of Dublin and a veteran of the Royal Irish Fusiliers as I am, I know well the costs of war, and this is a sad sacrifice that I trust that the Falkland Islands Legislative Council will help us commit fully to.

I ask that all Falkland Islanders carry out the evacuation calmly and peacefully, and that any foreign powers that deploy troops to the Islands take care to not damage any personal property remaining there.

Her Excellency Isabel Martínez de Perón
Vice President of the Argentine Republic

We, the Provisional Salvation Government of Argentina, applaud the British decision to expel their colonial settlers from the Islas Malvinas, which - by ancient right - is Argentine territory. The next step now will be for the Argentine Legion to occupy Las Malvinas as an outpost of the PSGA, from which we shall reclaim our homeland from the Alien invaders.

Separately, we demand that the international community takes action to free the crew of the Buenos Aires, held hostage at Esperanza Base, with armed force if necessary.

¡Las Malvinas son argentinas! ¡Viva Perón! ¡Viva Argentina! ¡Viva la Tierra!

Vice Chairman William Henry Goss
National Progressive Party

Our party, dedicated to the preservation of the natural and inalienable rights of man, declare our full opposition to the evacuation of us by the British Government from our homeland. While highly understandable, it is our view that the Falkland Islanders should be given the right to stay behind and resist any Alien invasion as volunteer auxiliaries of the Falkland Islands Defence Force, or simply remain in our home. What right does the British Government have to throw us out, away from our homes, our lands, our livestock?

We also firmly reject the exiled Argentine madmen's claim to our home as well. We are Falkland Islanders, and our allegiance and loyalty is to the Falklands, not to Argentina.

The NPP, founded 24 July 1964, is the only political party in the nation. As such, we now take it upon ourselves to represent the Falklander community in exile, to ensure that our human rights are respected and our living conditions held to a certain standard.

The Soviet Union believes that the irresponsible actions of the British means they should vacate the island. They should not be on the front lines of representing humanity when they are recklessly provoking the invaders. The island should be held as a trusteeship under the auspices of the United Nations. From there it will serve as a base of operations and supplies for our defensive efforts in South America.

Likewise we believe members of the Peronist administration should establish institutions on the Island. Peron should serve as a beacon to his people who are currently suffering under the yoke of the aliens. With refugees fleeing from the area they will need guidance. We expect Peron to serve in the same capacity as the brave and bold leadership of the Palestinian people.

Despite Pakistan's objections to certain decisions by the United Kingdom thus far, we would like to remind Mr. Peron that the British have taken a significant step towards helping the international community prepare to take on the threat that has taken most of his country so far, and that this moment is hardly the best one for him to antagonize the British people.

We do believe that negotiations for terms by which the PSGA can station forces on the islands would be wise. The Argentine forces have every right to participate in a coalition that aims to retake their nation from the extraterrestrial invaders. That said, if the men of the islands wish to join the force that would fight in defense of their home and families- Pakistan applauds them. Humanity is in this together.

Saudi Arabia, by and large, supports the stance of our Pakistani allies. The saying among the Bedouins, "I against my brother, my brothers and I against my cousins, then my cousins and I against strangers," should be a familiar one by now, and it is not a dissimilar stance to what we feel the international community should be taking. We do, however, feel a sympathy towards PGSA concerns at present, one that by no means should be taken as anything more than a plea for our historic friends the British to adopt a policy of diplomacy rather than unilateralism. The issue of Falklander sovereignty, while less significant than it has been in the past, is one worthy of at least discussion: we remind the international community that while the popular conception of the PGSA is of a band of exiles, they are still the sole semblance of a legitimate government for Argentina and the first nation to be wronged by the Posadist-extraterrestrial alliance.

If the people feel so strongly to stay on the island then the UK will allow them to stay under there own risk, the ones who whish to join the defenses are fully welcome to join if they so whish and the ones who don't can stay in there homes though are required to not hinder any military action with in reason, all people who accept the evact will at the end of the conflict be allowed to return to there homes [any damages caused will be fixed, current deal still stands].

Addressing the whishes to keep land damage to a minimum the UK will do all in its power to keep damages to a minimum and when this conflict is over will work to restore any damages caused to as close to its original condition as possible.

Addressing the PSGA claim over the land, the Falkland islands are still British and the UK WILL NOT BE HANDING back any control over to the PSGA, all military bases will be away from the settlements to prevent any major preventable damage to these settlements. the people of the Falkland islands have already given up both a reliable protection and there homes, we will not be forcing them to give up there ideas of governance and right to govern themselves

any nation who agrees to keep to the rules of agreement Then you will be allowed to station troops on these fair islands, these rules are meant to protect the islands, the islanders staying on the island and the different troops from any possible preventable harm, disregard these rules and depending on said rule breakage action might need to be taken, we think these rules are fair and just.

All Nations who currently are allowed to station troops on these islands, an [X] means they have accepted the Rules of Agreement hence forth known as ROA and are allowed to move troops, nations with out this [X] still have to accept the ROA before being allowed to move troops on the island.

- The UK [X]
- All Crown Colonies and the Common Wealth
- Saudi Arabia
- United States of America [X]
- Pakistan
- PRC [X]
- RC
- PSGA
- USSR
- France [X]

The United Kingdom would like to tell/warn the world that it plans on testing several Unmanned Aerial Vehicles through alien airspace with cameras, this will happen at [Tuesday at 7pm is when I'm posting it] and would like to hear the response from other nations, these UAVs will be stationed in the Falkland Island Territory Base and the images collected from them will be made public after some time.

Note due to time issues I will be doing this right away [since I sort of want to see what happens] sorry

The UK sent several destroyers to the same spots it launched the SSM to do more tests, this time they had 10 Radioplane BTT and 10 Canadair CL-89 UAVs, threw out the day they will do several tests increasing the distance that they go into the ATWZ [having cameras added to them] to try to get pictures of the alien controlled area, with the last 2 of each type doing long haul flights to the mainland [in an attempt to reach either the capital, a major city or as far into the nation as possible with them being still recoverable] to capture pictures, if they do get pictures these will be quickly moved back to the FIT base where they will be devolved and studied with the other FITHs and made public later [the UK will also work on longer endurance UAVs]

The grim faces of the Royal Air Force's commanders show nothing of the results, which remain a British state secret for now.
