Discord Server for Molotov

Postby Serenissima » 00:00:57 Tuesday, 06 September, 2016

Finally decided to do something else properly.

So, I've set up a Discord channel for us, now that the permanent rooms work well. So, those who use Discord, come hither! This can be used as a web browser link, too. And if you don't use it, then, well, maybe you should. Since it can notify my phone, unlike IRC. :p

I feel like I'm too set in my ways to bother unless it becomes actually popular. Seren, just come hang on IRC more oftennnnnn. Open Mibbit in a tab or chatzilla or something and leave it there and keep an occasional eye out for messages. Or set up pings on chatzilla.

Discord does have the advantage of a client that doesn't keep derping out, a much easier on the eyes interface than browser mibbit and a message log meaning that you don't miss out if your connection hiccups.

Yeah but we only advise mibbit for first-time users. If you have Firefox, chatzilla is a much better and nicer interface. Or various other add ons for other browsers. And sometimes you want to say things to someone who's in the room and not have it known by others, y'know? Maybe some players want to ask me something quietly about my game and it's easier for a group of us to just chat in the main channel instead of getting our own room if things are quiet.

Still, I could be convinced if there are enough people knocking around on our Discord.

Private chats are a thing. :p

As for IRC... it's a huge pain to bend over backwards to chat like I did in 1999. ;p

>bend over backwards
>open a single tab

and yeah, but changing shit is tiiiiiresome. communities we stemmed from have been using IRC for more than a decade.

So far as I can figure, the only advantages for Discord over IRC are you can do voice chat (which none of us do) and that it keeps a log of everything (which you can either do yourself, have an IRC client do for you, or if you don't give a shit you don't need to bother with it).

So I'll stick with IRC, thanksssss :gameofthrones!:

(not to mention "our" discord server is named unattractively "Serenissima's Discord Thing" :P )
