Watched "Arrival". It's fantastic. Don't watch the trailers, watch only the teaser if you need a reason to see it, but it's really great.

That good, eh? Isn't it some thriller? I'm not wild about the genre - still worth seeing?

Things that involve not seeing it blind
Nah, it's not a thriller. You can't expect Nightcrawler or Gone Girl anything from it, because it's not. It's more the story of a relationship told through metaphor, and the metaphor being this hyperviolent novel about masculinity and powerlessness the ex-husband's written.

If you wanna feel like, anxious and claustrophobic for like two hours, it's a good way to spend your time. Stellar shots and soundtrack, one narrative is fairly surreal, the other too real, the interplay pulled off decently.

I'm comfortable giving it a 9.5.

We played with the Electoral College, lets see who gets closest for the Oscars. Probably just the Big Five/Six:

Best Picture: Arrival
Best Director: Damien Chazelle, La La Land
Best Actor: Casey Affleck, Manchester-by-the-Sea
Best Actress: Natalie Portman, Jackie
Best Original Screenplay: Manchester-by-the-Sea
Best Adapted Screenplay: Moonlight

Some are a wild stab. I reckon Chazelle might get Best Director, just because Hollywood is in love with itself. Natalie Portman was fantastic in Jackie though, which I saw last night. It's a very strange film, but very striking.

A fantastic site on the musical themes used in the Lord of the Rings films, anyone who enjoyed them I encourage you to flick through and listen, it's really something.

4/6, not too bad.

But how about that Best Picture result? The internet will be awash with pictures of news sights who got it wrong.

I cannot wait for this. It'll probably be the last chapter in Caesar's tale but it looks great. Someone give Andy Serkis all the awards already.
