Eh. Greece is full of idiots on both sides. Its a pity the police can't be better controlled in this case though, I mean, there really shouldn't be such a culture.

Then again, seeing what the police have had to go through over the past few months in Greece, can't say I'm surprised its led to their police forces being anti anti-fascist. Its too easy to judge when the whole country is in such a shithole.

I disagree with bringing nuance into this. Fuck the police and this is why.
I also motion or this thread to be renamed "The Greek Conflict."

The police is, to be honest, not anti anti-fascist. They're just Fascist.

Another recent example.

Yeah, the Golden Dawn loves the police, and the police loves the Golden Dawn. I've read about so much shit, but most of it has been in Swedish, in the famous (apolitical) anti-racist magazine Expo.

Examples include the polls showing massive police support in the election for the Golden Dawn, many officers joining the party, the Golden Dawn's paramilitary actions against immigrants being ignored outright, the Golden Dawn's thugs being handed the addresses of left-wing activists, and so on.

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

I get serious Spanish Civil War vibes from this entire situation.

I'm so signing up for the Greek International Brigades.

I'ma sign up for the anti-communist volunteer forces, just to increase Molotov activity when Smyg and I do glorious battle off and online.

- More seriously, an "anti-racist" magazine, Swedish or not, isn't going to be unbiased as regards the Golden Dawn. Mainly because its impossible to be unbiased as regards commenting on the Golden Dawn, who by all accounts are just a bit nuts (and about fifty years behind the newer, softer right in Western Europe, hence even more nuts). Its easy to just blame the cops and say the anti-fascists are good, but everytime a bunch of folk dress up in black and go try and start a riot (like, for example, the London G20) then I feel exactly the same feeling of distaste as I do when some Golden Dawn fellows strut about ridiculously like over-intelligent cockerels.

I don't see why you bring up Expo, and then talk about the anti-Fascists.

I think people seem to forget that Greece isn't not-fascist. The GD got like 7% of the popular vote, well over half a million people, in the May 2012 elections. And that Greece was not like the rest of non-communist Europe during the Cold War, but aside from having 7 years of solid military rule, has had military rule on-and-off constantly throughout the 20th century.

Also, I was doing some reading to write ^ that, and apparent Golden Dawn want to go to war with Turkey and take back Istanbul/Constantinople, Izmir and the Black Sea. So yeah. Crazies.

To be exact, Golden Dawn got 6.97% of the vote in the May election, and 6.92% in the June election. I'd personally attribute the drop to the slump in voter turnout. Keep in mind, only 65.10% in May and 62.47% in June went to vote.

I've had issues finding polls, but in this fairly recent one (late September), 8.8% of the 1000 polled answered that if the elections were held now, they'd vote for Golden Dawn. That's quite an increase for what I must remind you is an utterly insane and deeply militant Neo-Nazi organization.

Heh. Brought up Expo because anti-racism generally links in with all the anti-fascist crazies who march about uni.

On a more comical note, Labine needs to read this thread. The Golden Dawn fit in perfectly into a LabineBoP world.
