I have absolutely nothing to contribute to the present topic of conversation, except a half-hearted defence of the British/Commonwealth use of the word "cunt". But everyone knows what could be offered in defence, so just imagine I've written it here.

Oh come on. Just because it's perceived to have more "bite" than Asshole and Dick/Dickhead/etc. doesn't mean you can just throw out the sexism card. Get that weak shit outta here.

For the record, that Palestine bullshit will only ever end in the kind of full on genocide type of deal settlers dealt to Native Americans. That's the only way that sort of territorial dispute comes to a full conclusion, which is unfortunate because modern media and politics will deter the side most capable of achieving that end from following through while the side desperate enough to follow through is both unable and cast as the villains for trying.

Or, you know, maybe it really is a disgusting word people shouldn't use. Fuck off.

Bite or no bite, "cunt" is one of those words that occupies the same plane as "nigger", or "kike", or even "faggot". It's not the same kind of overt hatred, but it definitely does smack of a systemic issue with the way gender-based slurs have been constructed.

While we can give a cultural pass to UK/Commonwealthers, we're still facing the issue that this sort of overuse and exposure will just make it more commonly used in American English as well. I'm not saying we should ban a word, but a little context and courtesy would help.

Wait, it's as bad as "nigger" in the US? It's really pretty tame here. I was going to comment on "faggot" too, but people probably already know we say that here too, since it seems the subject of some fascination elsewhere in the world that some people here call cigarettes "fags".

Interestingly, I don't think I've ever heard "kike" used in a real, social context. Though I think maybe in the UK there's a proclivity towards just straight up saying "Jew" instead. I wouldn't know where to rank it in terms of perceived offensiveness here though.

I'm not going to defend "nigger" "kike" "mick" or whatever else, but this is different. It's anatomy. Categorically, I'm having a hard time seeing where we have a problem with this word but use asshole and any penis derivative you can imagine. If I really get into this line of thinking, it 'aint a stretch to rule out "Fuck" either, and that kind of language control is beneath this community.

Back to the news.

"In recent news, pro-American militants in northern Mexico have seized multiple towns. Reportedly, several separatist 'republics' have been declared, causing Mexican authorities to vow that they will soon start a significant anti-terrorist operation. Said authorities allege that most, if not all, militants are actually American citizens. President Obama responded to these claims by denying any American involvement, but vowed to intervene of American interests are threatened. Meanwhile, the separatists say they are preparing to hold referendums on the region's continued territorial integrity."

I know he's satirizing Ukraine but next time please post a historical trigger warning.

The state operation, which includes sending state troopers to the border to assist local law enforcement, costs $1.3 million a week; the combined operation will cost more than $17 million a month. It's unclear how it will be funded, Perry said.
“Texans are willing to put boots on the ground. But we expect Washington to foot the bill,” Abbott said.

“Gov. Perry has referred repeatedly to his desire to make a symbolic statement to the people of Central America that the border is closed, and he thinks that the best way to do that is to send a thousand National Guard troops to the border,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest said. “It seems to me that a much more powerful symbol would be the bipartisan passage of legislation that would actually make a historic investment in border security and send an additional 20,000 personnel to the border.”

Kinda sounds not-unlike the Mexican-American conflict over Texas too, weirdly...
