I love how it goes from interesting to crazy to downright hilarious as it goes on.

Another wacky thing from Syria: Captagon, it's been known for a while but it's still disturbing.

I've heard that the cartels down here achieve a similar effect by mixing clonazepam and alcohol, with the added bonus that the user won't remember a thing.

Jesus, the rabbit hole just goes deeper and deeper. Jihadis all amped up, hunting for mystical red mercury.

Commented on this in IRC earlier:

Code: Select all

[17:29]	Huojin	The Diplomat wrote an article about the moe-fication of the JSDF
[17:30]	Huojin	in line with something Snacks and Rin and I were talking about earlier this month
[17:30]	Huojin	I wonder if it was just me but it read a little strangely, like someone trying to explain it from the inside and being like "it's really quite clever!"
[17:30]	Huojin	I was half expecting to see kawaii tanks

An interesting paper on the future development of the Chinese Navy and Chinese naval strategy. Only a couple of pages, well worth a read for anyone interested in ongoings in East Asia and the South China Sea and related maritime bodies.

Roko's Basilisk: In short, the premise is that an all-powerful artificial intelligence from the future could retroactively punish those who did not help bring about its existence, including those who merely knew about the possible development of such a being.

Which is probably the only thing that could save this motherfucker from Skynet.

In other Artificial Intelligence news, last week they unveiled an AI capable of competing with and soundly beating Go world champions which, based on the Go vs. Chess snobbery I was more familiar with a few years ago, was supposed to be a few decades out still. So now the computers are beating us at our most complicated games.

Then Microsoft took some kind of improved CleverBot they're working on and plugged it into Twitter, where it became a racist Trump supporter in a matter of hours.

Somehow AI still only performs at the level of cleverbot when humanity as a whole gets at it. Did Microsoft not bother to learn from IBM's Watson, and talk to its AI on its own for a little while?

So Reddit's got this weird April Fools thing with exponentially growing chatrooms? It's pretty bizarre, anyone had a play around with it?
