It's arguably more volatile, though, as in The Man in the High Castle
which that is based on, the USSR is defeated, as well as the USA, leading to a world far more split. This is more distinctly a four-way split.
But anyway! Idea dump!A Time for Targaryens:
Those of you familiar with George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire
will understand this best. It's a game set in Westeros during the Targaryen dynasty, namely the reign of Aerys I. I've done a fair bit of work on it, but it still needs further development.Black Out:
The idea is still there for a world where technology stops working. I'd welcome someone else taking it, as I'm not sure I'm really interested in running it any time soon.Boshin War:
I don't really know enough about the period to really make this game, but I took a little bit of a stab. It'd involve an internal conflict in Japan, between the Ishin-shishi
and the Emperor, adopting foreign tactics and weaponry, and the Shogunate, adhering to older ways. Meanwhile, Japan is being slowly targeted by foreigners, bringing industrialisation and new weapons to Japan in ways never before seen. It could be pretty interesting.Communist Italy:
An idea I had. I was thinking that I'd separate it from the rest of the "Communist Europe" world and just have events during the biennio rosso
get slightly more out of hand, the government gives way to the Socialist Party, who after consolidating their power quickly, abolish the monarchy and declare the Italian Socialist Republic. The north would be a stronghold of socialist support, but in the south there'd be plenty of Catholic Party support left over, as well as criminal elements. The King remains in exile abroad. Nationalists in Fiume under Gabriele d'Annunzio threaten the government from outside. I've got tentative stats in the workings for this, but nothing just yet.Comoé 2:
Some of you will remember Comoé from Patton. It was a govsim set in a small West African country between the Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana. It ended in 1962-ish. This game would pick up in 1971. Although the Democratic Party has remained one of the leading parties of Comoé, the Left has fallen away, with the Islamic Party, advocating conservatism and a brand of political islam having risen in their stead, along with the substantial growth in Islam in the country.
Control of Gold Standard Mining, now one of the fundamental pillars of the Comoén economy, is a concern, as is the growing industrialisation of some areas of Comoe, leading to some declines in health. The rising influence of Islam and the growth in sectarianism are a central part of the game. And there are concerns also over the loss of culture in the new Comoé.
I have some stats, they need a little bit of work, but it's basically there.March of Bemel:
It's a little bit like a govsim, set in a medieval (1262) territory, divided between a series of small houses, be they French, German, Dutch or Walloon. You'd compete for influence, territory, and so on. It's a little rough, particularly the map, but kinda there.Motherland 2:
A handful of you might remember "AAAHHHH! MOTHERLAND" from Fo' Dolo. It was set in a Yugoslavia-parallel that was breaking up into a series of ethnically-oriented states. Motherland 2 would be set in the "People's Socialist Republic of Krakozhi", and would promptly fall apart, prompting a Yugoslav War kind of mess. All it really needs is looking over and decent maps to show racial dispersion.Odd Idea revolving around Nine Years War:
So this is a strange idea I had regarding the Nine Years War
. It basically involves the Williamite War in Ireland going very well for the Jacobites and Ireland becoming the first bit of the British Isles to resist King William. Then when the French defeat an Anglo-Dutch fleet off Beachy Head (actually happened) and pursue it to inflict more damage (not so much, they were kinda useless), the Channel falls into French hands (more or less, yes). This gives the French time to enact their plan of sending James II and VII back to Britain. He lands in Scotland, little while later Scotland joins him, and then in a bloody campaign through England, is restored to the throne.
James then lends his support to Louis XIV, the Sun King, with the war in Europe. French forces that aided the capture of Britain are also freed up. A peace is concluded with Savoy in the south, and though France has economic difficulties, campaigns against the Spanish Netherlands and Catalonia encourage the Spanish to negotiate, with William of Orange joins. The war there is concluded. Despite his displeasure at the war being discontinued, Emperor Leopold I agrees to a peace, mainly due to his own crisis and also a war against the Ottomans.
It would start in 1699, Charles II about to kick the bucket in Spain and throw Europe back into chaos.Odd idea revolving around the Seven Years War:
This is the one that North Americans know as the French Indian War, though there was more to it than that. The idea would be that various things go wrong in Wolfe's campaign to take Quebec, and eventually due to winter, the French win that battle in North America. And then in Europe, a French fleet in Toulon evades British ships sailing to blockade Toulon and escapes into the Bay of Biscay. The Battle of Quiberon Bay is tipped in the French balance by these ships from Toulon, which then results in the planned invasion of Britain. The Jacobites take back control in Britain, without British support, Prussia soon loses its bit of the war, and so on.
There's one idea that the game could stop there and resume play from there. But then I had further ideas, which involve the States of Americas gaining independence in 1785. The American Revolution and the Seven (actually it ends up being more like Four) Years War end up bankrupting Britain, and in 1790, there's a British Revolution, as opposed to the French one.Pantheon:
Will be returning on Molotov, very soon. I'm thinking of ditching the Birth of Life stage, having far fewer players and maybe adopting Gesar's idea of setting the game in an alternate Europe or something. The idea needs work, certainly.Pre-Columbian Exposure:
A game Smyg and I were working on briefly. It involves more thorough Viking settlement in North America, which introduces the peoples of the America to Old World illnesses. They are ravaged and many die. When the Little Ice Age comes along, the Vikings go back to Europe, and when in 1492 a man named Columbus lands in the New World, it turns out that the natives, having recovered their population somewhat in the ensuing 400 years, are pretty immune to the horrible Old World illnesses. The idea is then that European colonisation becomes extremely limited in the Americas, being mainly in the Caribbean and stretching onto the mainland only slightly. The focus instead shifts more towards Asia and Africa and so on.
We had a rough idea of things, but the sheer scale of some things, like the millions wiped out in the Amazon who were killed by disease and war so thoroughly, we didn't even know they had existed, kinda put us off. If anyone fancies working on this, do give us a shout.Red Dawn:
Anfan-style stats, a game set in South Dakota at the edge of the Soviet advance in the 1984 movie, Red Dawn. Soviet troops, Salvadoran and Cuban troops, US Army, American partisans, collaborator governments, etc.Sails on the Horizon:
I had an idea for a game set in the New World in 1638, during colonialism and so on, but set from the point of view of the Native Americans. So you have to decide how you want to interact with these strange palefaces who are invading your homeland.Sengoku Jidai:
"The Age of the Country at War". Japan is divided in civil war over the shogunate, military rule of Japan. Various major clans compete to become the next shogun. This game would probably be based heavily on Shogun 2: Total War, simply because it's a pretty good way to imagine things. With scorp's tradition of turning TW games into forum games, maybe he'd be interested in working on this with me.Weimar Germany GovSim:
I have some stats I made in an afternoon when I was bored and ill of Weimar Germany, starting in 1928. They're pretty good. It's not that complicated a setting. Germany is a bit chaotic. The economy is in bits. There's a lot of paramilitary violence and such going on. All fun.Wilson's Island:
So this is an idea I had a while back. It's based on the CoDominium books by Jerry Pournelle. The CoDominium (a strange supra-national alliance between the USA and USSR that eventually acts as a de facto planetary government, influences the other nations of Earth and begins interstellar exploration), having spread out throughout the galaxy, is withdrawing from the planet Wilson's Island, one of the furthest out colonies, due to rising costs. In the power vacuum left behind, there'll be conflict and struggles between landowners, industrialists, convicts and involuntary colonists, mercenaries brought in, various political groups, and so on.
