Ideas Dump

Post by BgKnight » 19:02:36 Monday, 20 August, 2012

Here, you can post vague ideas which other players can take and develop and eventually GM. Everything from "Post Apocalyptic Govsim in America" to a more detailed description will do. Thought more details will be good if you want GMs to do exactly what is on your mind.

Here is my idea.

Russian Civil War:
Army stats: http://pastebin.com/wM96ZR78
An anfan style warsim, each player takes command of an army (the Bolsheviks could be split even further) and takes his place in the Russian Civil War. A terrutory map of European Russia, Ukraine and the Baltics would be needed with stats for the territories captured.

Here's just a few random thoughts of mine.

I'm currently, more or less, working on a govsim set in the fictional Caribbean banana republic of San Drogón, in the start of the 1960's, following a Cuban-influenced revolution against El Presidente. Very heavily inspired by the game series Tropico. Huojin has made a set of stats, that I have yet to modify to my liking - if anyone wants to run a simple and ready to go govsim to get some experience, they're free to borrow stats, flag and map of me.

Another thing I think may be somewhat successful is a form of spiritual successor to my Vanaheimr game. I have a map, but nothing else. Anyone interested, heh, which I doubt, let me know. I got a pretty solid game concept, albeit not much of a setting.

Had an idea about a govsim of sorts set in the medieval Baltic island of Gotland. The Hanseatic League, Baltic trade, Sweden versus Denmark, the Teutonic Knights versus the Victual Brothers pirate group, the trade city's merchant oligarchy versus the countryside's peasant republic, and so on. All in a relatively small scope. Orago's a huge fan. I'm not sure how well it would go to develop stats, but if anyone would be up for it, I could provide all the info needed.

If anyone is up for developing any type of alternate history game, I'd throw myself over the opportunity to help. I'll also provide knowledge on a wide array of subjects, especially northern Europe, is anyone desires such. :P

As you all well know I tend to leave a lot of dead ideas in my wake, but here is one to add to the pile.

1860s Nordic countries GovSim. Conflict largely oriented around internal politics associated with Scandinavianism vs. Nationalism, and external politics vis-a-vis The Franco-Prussian War. Just tossing that out there. :D

I will make more general ideas known here and my more... 'Detailed' ones known in my own thread.

For starters: What if Hitler had not invaded the U.S.S.R. in 1941 but keep trying to beat Britain? Without German forces diverted, and the U.S.S.R. busy reagrouping due to the Winter War, Britain is ultimately defeated by a continued localized air campaign combined by wolfpack sea strikes. Another thing could be Japan not declaring war on the U.S.A. So, the campaign against China continues; the Nationalists/Warlords are defeated and only guerrilla resistance remains. This leads us to a very different Cold War. One that pits Fascism against Communism, with the U.S.A. trying to protect America and playing a less key role.

I will work in a map later.

Apologies for double post.

Here is a hastily done map:
http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/5051 ... ne1950.png

The idea behind this is:
*It is 1950, after the world map has been redrawn.
*The UK is defeated and partitioned. A number of colonies are granted independence. Scottland secedes, and a NS puppet government is set up in both nations. India is independent.
*Germany gets it's colony backs, annexes Alsace-Lorreine and Luxenbourg. Has a great deal of influence in Europe and the world.
*Italy annexes some pre-WWI territory that was once Italian from France. It also makes the dream of a 'Greater Italy' a reality. Tunisia is transferred from Vichy France to Italy. Italy also incorporates many former UK/French colonies into it's own colonial empire.
*Vichy France gains control of France and most of the colonies it administered during the war. It is however forced to cede a number of formerly French colonies and territories to it's allies.
*Moroco is incorporated into Spanish Moroco, and Gibraltar is annexed by Spain. The Suez Canal is under Italian control.
*South Africa is independant. It is not incorporated into German or Italian colonies largely due to the Apartheid being sympathetic to Hitler's plans.
*Japan makes the Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere a reality. Chinese guerrillas continue to exist in abundance but most are forced to retreat to outer areas of the country. For it's own safety, Xinxiang aligns itself with the U.S.S.R..
*Some former UK colonies maintain passive resistance by refusing to acknowledge the new government. They are however too small to be a threat.
*Yugoslavia is invaded and partitioned. Most of the land goes to Italy. A small, German-Satellicized Croat state is created at the request of Hitler. A number of annexions are made by Romania, Hungary and Bulgary as well.
*A bunch of stuff that I am too lazy to write right now.

This feels eerily similar to something called Axis Victory. Can be found in the Patton BoP archives.

It's arguably more volatile, though, as in The Man in the High Castle which that is based on, the USSR is defeated, as well as the USA, leading to a world far more split. This is more distinctly a four-way split.

But anyway! Idea dump!

A Time for Targaryens: Those of you familiar with George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire will understand this best. It's a game set in Westeros during the Targaryen dynasty, namely the reign of Aerys I. I've done a fair bit of work on it, but it still needs further development.

Black Out: The idea is still there for a world where technology stops working. I'd welcome someone else taking it, as I'm not sure I'm really interested in running it any time soon.

Boshin War: I don't really know enough about the period to really make this game, but I took a little bit of a stab. It'd involve an internal conflict in Japan, between the Ishin-shishi and the Emperor, adopting foreign tactics and weaponry, and the Shogunate, adhering to older ways. Meanwhile, Japan is being slowly targeted by foreigners, bringing industrialisation and new weapons to Japan in ways never before seen. It could be pretty interesting.

Communist Italy: An idea I had. I was thinking that I'd separate it from the rest of the "Communist Europe" world and just have events during the biennio rosso get slightly more out of hand, the government gives way to the Socialist Party, who after consolidating their power quickly, abolish the monarchy and declare the Italian Socialist Republic. The north would be a stronghold of socialist support, but in the south there'd be plenty of Catholic Party support left over, as well as criminal elements. The King remains in exile abroad. Nationalists in Fiume under Gabriele d'Annunzio threaten the government from outside. I've got tentative stats in the workings for this, but nothing just yet.

Comoé 2: Some of you will remember Comoé from Patton. It was a govsim set in a small West African country between the Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana. It ended in 1962-ish. This game would pick up in 1971. Although the Democratic Party has remained one of the leading parties of Comoé, the Left has fallen away, with the Islamic Party, advocating conservatism and a brand of political islam having risen in their stead, along with the substantial growth in Islam in the country.

Control of Gold Standard Mining, now one of the fundamental pillars of the Comoén economy, is a concern, as is the growing industrialisation of some areas of Comoe, leading to some declines in health. The rising influence of Islam and the growth in sectarianism are a central part of the game. And there are concerns also over the loss of culture in the new Comoé.

I have some stats, they need a little bit of work, but it's basically there.

March of Bemel: It's a little bit like a govsim, set in a medieval (1262) territory, divided between a series of small houses, be they French, German, Dutch or Walloon. You'd compete for influence, territory, and so on. It's a little rough, particularly the map, but kinda there.

Motherland 2: A handful of you might remember "AAAHHHH! MOTHERLAND" from Fo' Dolo. It was set in a Yugoslavia-parallel that was breaking up into a series of ethnically-oriented states. Motherland 2 would be set in the "People's Socialist Republic of Krakozhi", and would promptly fall apart, prompting a Yugoslav War kind of mess. All it really needs is looking over and decent maps to show racial dispersion.

Odd Idea revolving around Nine Years War: So this is a strange idea I had regarding the Nine Years War. It basically involves the Williamite War in Ireland going very well for the Jacobites and Ireland becoming the first bit of the British Isles to resist King William. Then when the French defeat an Anglo-Dutch fleet off Beachy Head (actually happened) and pursue it to inflict more damage (not so much, they were kinda useless), the Channel falls into French hands (more or less, yes). This gives the French time to enact their plan of sending James II and VII back to Britain. He lands in Scotland, little while later Scotland joins him, and then in a bloody campaign through England, is restored to the throne.

James then lends his support to Louis XIV, the Sun King, with the war in Europe. French forces that aided the capture of Britain are also freed up. A peace is concluded with Savoy in the south, and though France has economic difficulties, campaigns against the Spanish Netherlands and Catalonia encourage the Spanish to negotiate, with William of Orange joins. The war there is concluded. Despite his displeasure at the war being discontinued, Emperor Leopold I agrees to a peace, mainly due to his own crisis and also a war against the Ottomans.

It would start in 1699, Charles II about to kick the bucket in Spain and throw Europe back into chaos.

Odd idea revolving around the Seven Years War: This is the one that North Americans know as the French Indian War, though there was more to it than that. The idea would be that various things go wrong in Wolfe's campaign to take Quebec, and eventually due to winter, the French win that battle in North America. And then in Europe, a French fleet in Toulon evades British ships sailing to blockade Toulon and escapes into the Bay of Biscay. The Battle of Quiberon Bay is tipped in the French balance by these ships from Toulon, which then results in the planned invasion of Britain. The Jacobites take back control in Britain, without British support, Prussia soon loses its bit of the war, and so on.

There's one idea that the game could stop there and resume play from there. But then I had further ideas, which involve the States of Americas gaining independence in 1785. The American Revolution and the Seven (actually it ends up being more like Four) Years War end up bankrupting Britain, and in 1790, there's a British Revolution, as opposed to the French one.

Pantheon: Will be returning on Molotov, very soon. I'm thinking of ditching the Birth of Life stage, having far fewer players and maybe adopting Gesar's idea of setting the game in an alternate Europe or something. The idea needs work, certainly.

Pre-Columbian Exposure: A game Smyg and I were working on briefly. It involves more thorough Viking settlement in North America, which introduces the peoples of the America to Old World illnesses. They are ravaged and many die. When the Little Ice Age comes along, the Vikings go back to Europe, and when in 1492 a man named Columbus lands in the New World, it turns out that the natives, having recovered their population somewhat in the ensuing 400 years, are pretty immune to the horrible Old World illnesses. The idea is then that European colonisation becomes extremely limited in the Americas, being mainly in the Caribbean and stretching onto the mainland only slightly. The focus instead shifts more towards Asia and Africa and so on.

We had a rough idea of things, but the sheer scale of some things, like the millions wiped out in the Amazon who were killed by disease and war so thoroughly, we didn't even know they had existed, kinda put us off. If anyone fancies working on this, do give us a shout.

Red Dawn: Anfan-style stats, a game set in South Dakota at the edge of the Soviet advance in the 1984 movie, Red Dawn. Soviet troops, Salvadoran and Cuban troops, US Army, American partisans, collaborator governments, etc.

Sails on the Horizon: I had an idea for a game set in the New World in 1638, during colonialism and so on, but set from the point of view of the Native Americans. So you have to decide how you want to interact with these strange palefaces who are invading your homeland.

Sengoku Jidai: "The Age of the Country at War". Japan is divided in civil war over the shogunate, military rule of Japan. Various major clans compete to become the next shogun. This game would probably be based heavily on Shogun 2: Total War, simply because it's a pretty good way to imagine things. With scorp's tradition of turning TW games into forum games, maybe he'd be interested in working on this with me.

Weimar Germany GovSim: I have some stats I made in an afternoon when I was bored and ill of Weimar Germany, starting in 1928. They're pretty good. It's not that complicated a setting. Germany is a bit chaotic. The economy is in bits. There's a lot of paramilitary violence and such going on. All fun.

Wilson's Island: So this is an idea I had a while back. It's based on the CoDominium books by Jerry Pournelle. The CoDominium (a strange supra-national alliance between the USA and USSR that eventually acts as a de facto planetary government, influences the other nations of Earth and begins interstellar exploration), having spread out throughout the galaxy, is withdrawing from the planet Wilson's Island, one of the furthest out colonies, due to rising costs. In the power vacuum left behind, there'll be conflict and struggles between landowners, industrialists, convicts and involuntary colonists, mercenaries brought in, various political groups, and so on.

Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun

Essentially, this game would be a set up like the Medieval Battle BoP, or MicroBattlefield RP, only this is set approximately during the Tiberian Sun game. Fight for GDI, Fight for Nod, fight for CABAL. Who shall triumph?

It'd have all the C&C schizo tech and other fun stuff.

The Disunited States of America

A Balkanized USA derivative set in a world where the Philadelphia Convention fell apart and they kept the articles of Confederation. this eventually results in the collapse of the USA into multiple independent states. Players would play as sgtates, war, bicker, and all that good stuff, all under the shadow of a Britain looking to reclaim lost territory in America and a france seeking compensation for debts.

On a more serious note, I was planning on doing one of 2 things. Re-running a Battlefield 2025 game from Patton:

http://i52.tinypic.com/27y5pw8.png

Where players get limited actions instead of credits. the world is divided etc.

OR

A continuation game following on from my game First Contact 3

http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/1620/universecopy.png

I always planned to convert the game from space exploration to an empire style BOP. Players would have a massive military constructed and the borders would begin to be set, but cross border colonisation and other factors would cause tension. It would carry on from and be based on players previous actions, but the stats would be very simplified to stop the game being hard to GM.

More like Axis Victory vs. Allies with Cold War against Comintern.

Neat.

And why instead of removing the Birth of Life stage we simply are not allowed more weirdness? You know, it was cool trying to create supermen and monsters and stuff.

Personally, I think we should leave First Contact until Tsaeb is ready to run FC5. It'll change the way the game is played, srsly.

Could do. But the transition between Birth of Life and Society stages is complicated. The Birth of Life stage was more of an after thought anyway. Some of the ideas people wanted to do *coughTsaebcough* really stretched the boundaries of the game, which was tricky.

Mhm... Perhaps the birth of life stage could be something like a 'free action point' instead? So when the society stage comes and actual settlements start we can do our crazy gods' experiments.

There were no action points in the Society Stage. But worry not, I don't intend to do anything about Pantheon just yet, and when I fix it up, I'll have a separate thread for it. Lets not fill the ideas dump with non-ideas.
