Is that an attempt at being derisive? Because in case you were not aware - as your comment not so sublty implies - money comes from the government. No sovereign issuer of currency = no money. Even the Gold Standard era had more money in the form of bills and credit than it ever did it gold or silver. If the government keeps a positive balance permanently (as austrians would desire) then the economy would be in a state of permanent recesion due to the simple fact that the only means of currency to enter the economy not only being denied, but there is also a practical drain of currency from it. Less currency means less jobs, less productions, more unemployment, and more hardship for everyone. To deny this is to deny reality, just like libertarians do.

As a matter of fact, there is an entire book on the subject which explains it quite well and it was written by the guy who teaches anthropology at the London School of Economics, David Graeber.

Christ, you guys.
Well, it is not like it is rocket science either... As a matter of fact you can confirm what I just posted by partaking in a little experiment - next time you play Monopoly (or local equivalent) you have the bank take in cash instead of giving it. Note how many turns the game lasts.

Just a dump of ideas that have been in my head, doubtful i'll run any of them, just throwing them out there:

Red Dawn: You figure out a group of characters and we create a story-line for them, something that they have to do. The game will happen all over the United States that is in the midst of a Soviet invasion in the 80s. You can be everything from a lowly smuggler, through a military unit attached to any of the two sides fighting, to a random bloke caught in the middle of the fight.

The Ark: I've pitched this before. Humanity was destroyed, by what and how, we don't remember. What remains of humanity is on the Ark, a giant generation ship that houses millions of people, deep into space. But humanity being what it is, the ship's population is badly fractured politically, either over old allegiances, or new ideologies. Some factions have control over vital resources, while others remain nomads moving from one section of the ship to another. The ship has yet to collapse thanks to the Utilitarians, a group of engineers and ship officers who have shut themselves out of the rest of human population, devoting themselves to maintaining the ship's life support, the bridge and navigating the ship to another destination. Nobody knows anything about them, other then their technologies which are far more advanced then the rest of humankind.

The Cursed People: The beautiful Ferghana Valley has been a place of conflict for many nations. But now, more then ever, it has drawn the world's attention. As the Soviet Union collapses, the grand experiment of settling that was the Lango Drum (The Long Road) has reached its natural end. As the Soviet Union withdraws form Central Asia, Romanistan, a nation created by force settlement of the Roma in the valley during Stalin's time, has now found itself in the middle of an ethnic conflict with its newly-created neighbors. Chaos grips the region, the economies collapse and the militaries gear for action. Will you lead the Cursed people out of yet another struggle for their right to exist.

Reverse Cold War: An silly alt History idea, I want to see if we can make it work. Russia being the democratic superpower while America is the Communist anti-colonial superpower.

I'd be down for any of the first three. The Ark and the Cursed people especially.

Speaking of things I'll never do: a Byzantine/Byzantine-inspired govsim.

The last emperor died in battle with his son and heir, and the new emperor is some general with no real legitimacy outside of his theme army's backing. Players play other generals, the patriarch, high-powered eunuchs, Bulgars/Arabs/Crusaders, whatever.

Reminds me of a game that Gesar developed ages back, except his more Ancient Greek City State in feel. Sounds like an exercise in "can we unite long enough to save this shithole, or are we gonna spend our time bickering over who gets to be king of the shithole?". Which is to say, it sounds like tremendous fun.

Is anybody interested in my WW1 German Spy Game? The premise I wrote for it is this:

"Hello, Agents. Time as flown quickly, as it has for me. You have been in New York City since the early days of 1915, as you can recall. But now, it's time to take action. The American giant has the industry and manpower to defeat the Kaiserreich and her allies. You, have been chosen to destroy infrastructure in New York City. In these files contain the list of important buildings you will damage. Along with that, $1,000 have been supplied to your group. Spend it carefully. And good luck" the man said, handing over several files, in the dead of night just outside of New York City.

* * *
Welcome to the Sign Up thread for Germans Abroad: A WW1 Spy Game! In this RP game each of you will be playing a German spy in New York City, in which you've gotten orders from back home to destroy American infrastructure in New York. I, the DM of sorts will provide all of you with a mission (as a group). You may accomplish the missions as you like, but don't get caught. Along with Lugers, knives, contacts (though some can be pricey if you want a job done) and few sticks of dynamite (each) the group has $2,000 (a mix of the money provided and your wages). All actions will be posted in the main thread, which will be decided successful or not via a number generator. Each character will be also provided stats for:

Intelligence

Strength

Diplomacy

Marksmanship

Melee

These stats will influence your "dice roll" (+1 point -1 point, etc.) Each dice roll will be between 0 and 10. I hope you enjoy the game!

You should write up a background for your character. You can find the thread here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1393

Just an idea I was kicking around. Lemme know what you all think.
Supers: Otensia Genocide

The year is 1997. The small Eastern European “Socialist Republic of Otensia” has finally fallen following the collapse of the Eastern Bloc, succumbing to infighting, political ambition, jingoism, and crucially, ethnic tensions. The country has erupted into civil war, with Otensians, Kariots, and Esturis fighting - for dominance, and for survival. The war has taken a turn for the worst in recent months, with rumours of genocide and ethnic cleansing emerging from the shattered nation.

Not bad news for everyone though: unveiled in the dying stages of the Cold War, the existence of super-powered individuals has altered the geo-political landscape - and every nation and alliance bloc of consequence has been dying for the opportunity to test them out openly. Off the coast, a NATO fleet shifts into position. Along the northern border, CIS troops and armour shift into position. And within, each side scrabbles to hold onto what it can - and cleanse their country while they still can.

All names and such placeholders for now, but I’d probably end up going with them. The gist of this is a semi-geopolitics, semi-superheroes game. There’d be five factions battling it out in a tiny, war-torn country, full of genocides, superhuman feats, ruined cities, and death. Fun for the whole family.

It would probably be a kind of govsim/BOP, more detailed than your average BOP but less full-immersion-y than a govsim. There’d be multiple players for each faction, since it’ll provide more corruption and in-fighting and lack of coordination (IC) and also make things less stressful when players inevitably crap out (OOC).

The gist of the factions and their goals would be:
- NATO strike force, aiming to stop the genocide and establish a peaceful, stable government.
- Underfunded CIS task force, aiming to establish a stable pro-CIS government of any sort.
- Local Otensian majority, aiming to establish a strong government and reduce the influence of the other two ethnicities
- Local Kariot population, aiming to either establish a strong overall government or establish their own independent state, and reduce the influence of the other two ethnicities
- Local Esturi population, aiming to establish a safe zone of any kind and not be genocided into non-existence.

Mixed in with tanks, aircraft, farmers with guns, and missile sites will be super-powered individuals, who can be used much like any other unit, except with special powers unique to each of them. The distribution would probably be something like this:

NATO gets smaller, well-trained team. Probably tech-heavy.
CIS gets more substantial team, emphasis on genetics and the like.
Otensians, Karats, and Esturis get luck of the draw for local heroes to raise them from despair.

The heroes would be anything from man-in-super-suit to ESPers to genetically modified monsters to mutants from birth to super-intelligent brains. And more. They’ll be randomised, not pre-selected by players, but there’ll probably be a few prominent/well known names for each side, with lesser ones around. NATO and CIS would have a lesser ability to recruit/obtain more if and when their heroes are out of action or killed.
But yeah, not given it a massive amount of thought, but thought I’d throw something in here. Perhaps if people like the idea enough I’ll develop it some more after Louisiana.

I was pitching an idea on the chat of a sci-fi BoP, which led Huojin to mention the FC series. I've got the rules from v5, are there any other rules floating around out there? Anything would be great, thanks. If I can make the rules work for the setting, then I'll let you know the setting.

So a wee idea that popped into my head, and that I possibly wouldn't do in the end, but thought I'd see how folk might feel of it. A map game, but with a twist.

Instead of humanity, it's an alien race. Players would take the role of, loosely, "gods", influencing events - from the initial climate, biology and terrain, to the race's progression through history (Ages of Bronze, Iron, Medieval, Renaissance, Industrial, Information, Space). Folk would post what they want to happen, and I would take all the various orders and add in a few RNGs, and process it. A beautiful, stat-less, easily GMed world. Would take a while to get into the Space Age, probably, but I'd have an incentive:

By the time that the Space Age comes around, the alien society will have become apparent, and it'll hopefully have our collective involvement. I will then play it, as an interactive AAR, in Stellaris - since by then, I'll have finished my first game in it as the humans, so I'll need something new.

Just a thought!
