The Rise and Fall of Giants: 1830 BOP

Postby Luc » 21:11:00 Saturday, 22 October, 2016

Hello guys, this is the game i've talked so long about, this, is 1830 BOP. In this thread, the ideal thing would be for player to show interest, claim nations and discuss game actions/stats, any of those are very welcome.

Here are the Main Powers we need filled up:

United Kingdom of Great Britain (Cephal)
Kingdom of France (Maybee)
Kingdom of Prussia (DutchGuy)
Tsardom of Russia (Red John)
Empire of Austria (Huojin)
United States of America (Tellos)
Ottoman Empire (Scorpion)
Kingdom of Spain (Hussam_B)

Then, we have the secondary powers, which would also be good to have players as:

Empire of Brazil (Serenissima)
Kingdom of Denmark
United Mexican States (Gesar)
United Kingdom of the Netherlands (lbj181)
Kingdom of Portugal and the Algarves
Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont (Andre Massena)
Kingdom of Sweden (Smyg)
Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (Snacks)
Kingdom of Ethiopia (LizardWizard)
Republic of Gran Colombia (Flamelord)

Then we have all the other states of the world, which are to be considered NPC's for the natural state of the game, but can receive full stats if a player chooses them, these go from all continents, the Zulu nation, Gran Colombia, Argentina, China, Persia... you name it! You can play em all! But I would like to have at least the Main Powers filled up before you chose smaller nations, but thats just what I would like, in the end, any nation that existed at the time, is playable.

One thing to note is that in the stats, you will notice that all troops and boats are deployed, but with no specified location, that is so you guys can decide in your first turn where you want them deployed, and which ones you want in the reserves.

Game Rules
((Huojin permitted me to use his rules for 1715 as a base))

— NPC Diplomacy (FREE): Private message with the GM (or contact on IRC) for discussions with NPC nations, individuals, groups, etc.
— Enact Reforms (-1000): Base costs for all national reforms, more can be invested in order to improve success chance or better outcomes.
— Investment (-100 minimum, blocks of 100): Invest in an specified area of the economy to enhance its growth.
— Send Aid (Limitless): Send aid (economic, material, military, etc.) to a specified political or rebel group, individual, or nation. The type of aid must be specified.
— Propaganda (-600, blocks of 200): Spread Propaganda within your nation and the foreign powers. The type of propaganda must be specified for extra effect.

— Fund Explorers (-3000): Send intrepid individuals to strike out to new lands, making contact with new peoples. Assists claims by virtue of discovery, and increases chances of successful trade post, claim, and colony establishment.
— Establish Claim (-2000): You know the limits of your land, but now you want everyone else to know too. Stake a formal claim of areas you deem yours.
— Encourage Colony (-1000 minimum, blocks of 500): Provide people with transport, exemptions, encouragement of all kinds to move somewhere new and set up shop. Will speed the natural growth of colonies. This action can also be used to found new colonies or to expand already existing ones.

— Incite Unrest (-2000, blocks of 1000): Stir up unrest, dissenting elements, and other opposition groups in another country. Chances of success increase dramatically if it’s based on something more than thin air, or if more money is invested,
— Frame Others (-400): From intricate covert ongoings to false flag attacks, frame someone else for something you did (or didn’t do!).
— Assassination (-1000): Kill anyone - from the leader of a vast empire to a man on the street. But you probably don’t want to bother with just a random man on the street, if we’re honest.
— Sabotage (-1500): Economic, social, political, structural, anything that can be broken, this breaks it. Chances of success increase if you give some specifics!

— Buy a Unit (-100): Each unit equals 1000 men, Recruits a new unit directly to your reserves. After recuited, Units cost 40 per turn to maintai while mobilised.
— Buy a Ship (-200): Builds a new ship for you grand fleet, ready to sail after 1 turn. After recuited, Units cost 60 per turn to maintai while mobilised.
— (De)Mobilise a Unit (FREE): Raise or dismiss your reserves, adding them to your standing forces after 1 turn.
— Deploy a Unit/Fleet (-10): Send troops or ships from one place to another. Each time you launch an attack or an advance, you must use this action.
— Send Volunteers (-600): Encourage members of your own population to enlist abroad to fight for someone else’s king and country.
— Hire Mercenaries (-1000): If you’re running low on troops, hire some. 20 credits per unit, they are ready to fight on the turn you buy them.
— Build Defences (-200 minimum, blocks of 200): Coastal batteries, defensive lines, star fortresses, build anything you like to defend what’s yours.

Everything else, that is sane and was possible at the time, is also possible to be done in game, ask me if you have doubts about something else, or the price of some other action.

I'll snag Austria.

Also I raised the question before about the oddly high credit costs of everything, but I'll leave it to someone else to check over everything and make sure it makes sense. And to raise issue with it if they fancy. Just bringing it to attention, since it's probably the only major thing to check over.

Looks good otherwise.
The Gesarist Manifesto, chapter 5 opening foreword wrote:"The guerrilla must move like a fish in the sea, namely by drinking until you can delude yourself into hoping rich bastards will be gone one day."

  • Balance of Power: 1968 - Iraqi Republic

Added. All the prices are elevated, however, so is your income and your treasury, so nothing will really change.

Dunno if I'll have the time to join just yet, but wanted to point out that Hokkaido is still Ezochi at this time. While there's not any real consensus to when Japan fully takes control of the island, the only Japanese settlement is a trading post currently on the southern-most tip.

The Ryukyu Kingdom, meanwhile, is still a dual-tributary state to both China and the Satsuma clan, and isn't formally (and forcefully) annexed until 1872.

This makes literally no difference, since there's no way the game will go long enough for Japan to ever be considered for play, but you know.

I'd like something fairly minor if I'm roped in. Something in South America, maybe, like Brazil or Chile. Either that, or I'd be willing to be some kind of vassal like the Raj. Given the other games I'm in, I wouldn't have a vast amount of time for this one.
