Temporary placeholder bio in lieu of an in-depth one.

Name: Gaspard Hercule, Vicomte de Montrésor
Age: 36
Place of Birth: Tours, France
Bio:

*A grandson of a Napoleonic officer-turned-prefect who gained a fearsome, if unsavory reputation as an agent of the Ultra-Royalists of the Bourbon Restoration, Gaspard de Montrésor was raised in one of the many bourgeois families who rose during that era. Father defected to the Orleanist cause, giving the family a slightly unsavory reputation.

*A natural polyglot with a talent for the sciences, Gaspard made his way into the diplomatic service with a purchased commission. Assigned to Vienna as a junior diplomat, married an Austrian noblewoman, proto-feminist and aspiring novelist after getting her with child. Their relationship was turbulent, marred by constant arguing, mending the relationship, casual affairs with both sexes, and near-bankruptcy.

*In Vienna, gained quite a bit of renown as an articulate, well-read advocate of a liberalism and Romantic nationalism, as well as a less-useful fondness for naturalism. Political career earned him many contacts, and he began to use his position to "misdirect" funding as needed to fund his wife's lifestyle and buy more favors.

*Having already caught their attention with his politics and eccentricity, eventually prosecuted for corruption by the regime of Napoleon III, at which point his wife returned home with his son and daughter, pregnant with a third child.

*With the help of old friends, took up a largely ceremonial position under Archduke Maximilian after inheriting title and wealth, used that clout as part of the group that persuaded Maximilian to accept the title of Emperor of Mexico. Much to his dismay, he was not invited to join the new Emperor upon arrival, and has spent the last year and a half attempting to start up "legitimate" business ventures in New York.

Not the most amazing sheet, but it'll do.

Name: Edmund Daniels
Age: 39
Place of Birth: Pittsburgh, America
Biography: Born as the third son of a first generation immigrant family, who made a living as a tailor. His early life was relatively unremarkable. He went to school for a primary education before going to work with his father. It was not too long before he became an apprentice, and then went into business for himself.

Yet he always felt like there was something missing, and would become something of the less than perfectly innocent sort. Drinking, gambling, always looking for some excitement in his life. Needless to say it drove his wife crazy, which was probably why their marriage ended up not working out, just before the war began. Nonetheless he was able to expand his business a bit, building up a nice reserve of cash should he ever need it and establishing himself as a fairly well known player, for all the scandals that might dog at his heels at the same time. Even if he wasn't the most cunning, he was reliable. When the Civil War came he enlisted, determined to fight for the unity of country, and to get out of some of the trouble he had landed himself in beforehand. He could fight just as well as anyone else, so who cared what his motives were?

He ended up fighting with the navy in the Civil War, deployed as part of the blockade of the South and in support of land based combat operations. He saw combat, but not much of it that was very intense, and so moved through the conflict like most of those who were recruited. After the war ended he found himself approached to assist with a particular initiative, and so here he is now.
