Dawn of the New World

Postby LordMoose » 00:51:08 Sunday, 16 April, 2017

"Welcome one and all to Novus Vitae! an earth like planet 37 light years from earth,
you have all have come here seeking a new life and here you shall have one! No racism,
no sexism, nothing from your old life. A brand new slate for everyone!

so this will be a colonial BOP, you will be setting up different companies to try and stake out as much
land as possible and export stuff back to a dying earth for profit, but profit is not the only motivate, buy
out other companies stocks to become shareholders/owners, deal with the natives, find new minerals and goods,
discover the history of this far flung planet and deal with other companies and politics

TINY BIT OF HISTORY
More will be added later

The year is 2374 and humans have destroyed themselves, tech has progressed little due to Constant war and nuclear blasts [north Korea launching the 1st, thanks NK]. what has happened is a bunch of humans [231.923 billion ] have taken up living in space to escape the barren landscape that earth has become, expanding into other places around Sol-1. the problem is that we have drained everything we can from our poor Sol [just the fact of life with over 200 billion people] and need to expand to new areas to find new stuff to sustain our sol. So that's where you come in, fly to a new world full of goodies, complete with different companies and try to become the sole owner of the New World

The Next few Sections will be split up into Political, Stock, Combat,  Sign up,  Economical and Mis.

not in this order, sorry will arrange later

Markets!
Note the backstory is explained in Miss.

Markets - in this world everything is up for exportation, from soil to water and industrial goods. the only things to note on this is A- different markets and B- detail is key. with the different markets comes different rules and requirements, the Sol Republic markets are a lot larger than any other market and have lower taxes and fees but have a high unit requirement [how many units needed to be able to sell in the market] while the INA.GHOST.inc markets have low unit requirements but higher taxes and fees. also note there are other off world markets but they are generally smaller.

ALSO NOTE, the more detail you put in the more payout, stuff like “computer chips” will net a higher price than “computer parts]

Markets
Key Notes - AMTV [Avg market trade value [how big the market is]
- OTF [one time fee[s]]
- YF [yearly fee[s]]

Sol Republican Markets
AMTV - 971.5 trillion

More will be added as time moves on.

Also note that prices change independently of the markets and differently in each market. If you wish to see a price on something either check on the market list or ask me [market list not done yet]

Stocks

The number/price of stocks you start out with is fixed at

Stock Price - $100 Common, $100,000 Voting
Number of Stocks - 5,000,000 Common, 1,000 Voting

But you can change both of those in different ways. Price will change depending on
How well you do and different events.

ok so the way stocks will work in this game is this, there bargaining tools [so say you want to make a deal with a different company, you can trade some stocks] as well as an investment/capital raising tool. All stocks will pay dividends every year, at the start dividends will be 10% of PROFITS per year, you can change this up or down [so if you made 100 million in profit in one year then 10 million is split between all stocks]. each company will attract a different type/types of investor, so finding out what type they are and what they like will also be key in the stock market. Voting stocks are like normal stocks exp that they give anyone holding them a vote on the board of directors [the same people that make most actions within the company happen], these stocks can give great power to anyone [since if you can get 51% of them you basically control that company] but also rarely come on the market and are extremly expensive [you as the player control 30% of the voting stocks while your BOD control the other 70%, you can buy them from them as well]. to take over a company you must both have %50 + 1 of the common stock as well as the voting stock, different companies can and will set different rules when it comes to stocks as well. once you reach total control you can make that company merge with yours [also note you have to keep investors happy, what to do to make them happy will depend on what type they are]

splits! ok so in this game the stock market will work sort of likes ours [if you want to get more in debt on it you can do a PM special action] so you will have to deal with splits. the two types of splits are - a split in and split out. a split out is basically dividing everyone's stock, so if I did a three to one split then if you controlled 10 stocks those stocks are timed by 3, making it now 30 stocks, now generally this will cause the price of any stock that this happens to to go down my the factor it was split by [in this case it would be 1/3 of its old price once it happen] but this can not happen, these things are risky. a split in is more of a method of last resort and will make investors extremely pissed. a split in works like this, say a 3-1 split in occurs and you hold 30 stocks, you divided that number by 3 and you end up with 10 stocks left [or the closest whole number] while the company gets the different between the two numbers [in this case the 20 stocks]. this action will almost always destroy investors trust due to it only being used as a last resort "i need to get capital now" thing, only use a split in very sparingly

This will also fall under markets even though it can fit almost everywhere

Events! each and every turn there will be different events that happen on a world wide and company bases, some events are helpful, some not but most are sort of neutral, being that if you can complete them you get X bonus or get to harm the other companies. an example of a basic neutral event would be [in very sparse detail, more would happen in the game]

-- "The Sol Republic in order to create the largest supercomputer and AI puts out a bid to all companies in order to buy 50 million HJ-9 Hard Drives* --for this upcoming project at a unit price of $12,976 each. Bids are due by 2357 2nd Half Sol, products will be due by 2362 2nd Half Sol."

so the next section would go into detail on how to produce a HJ-9 Hard drive and any other rules and stuff, along with possible responses and actions you could take. while this won't be limited to only economical actions this will be the main type of event, but murders, war, baby booms and other stuff could happen as well

Combat

Anything goes, currently right now the republics have about as much control over this world as anyone else, so they might ask you to go to war with a different company align with a different republic, in which case you would RP it and we would have a combat turn. but as long as you can fit it in a MD and can bring it you can use it. also ammo will be taken into account. also you can do combat stuff as well when ever, remember this game is free from, so the only limited is you guys

More will be added

Politics

Sol Republic [basically the UAS across the inner planets], the Gas Republic [Russia in the gas giants], the EU [outer regions of our solar system] or the INA.GOST.inc [independent non-aligned group of space travelers] along with smaller groups

MISS
Where stuff that does not fit into anything goes

2.1 - FLT travel? yes we do have it, it is in the form of Mass Drives. the way a mass drive works is you get a bunch of Hyper Matter [an extremely unstable form of matter], you get a really tough tube and you release the energy in the Hyper matter, flinging whatever is in it at super high speeds [you're able to travel the 36/37 light years in around 12 days at great experience or in 6 years at a less costly sum]. for you guys your 1st trip has been covered by either the Sol Republic [basically the UAS across the inner planets], the Gas Republic [Russia in the gas giants], the EU [outer regions of our solar system] or the INA.GOST.inc [independent non-aligned group of space travelers], all 4 of these republics/company have different goals and rules over there area, with different markets and plans. you will have to balance them very carefully. if you want more backstory then just ask

also don't try pissing off the republics/company back in Sol 1, they have the tech to murder everything [they accidently MD mars to the opposite side of our local star group, 76 light years away due to the planet being in the blowback zone of the 1st MD]

2.2 - everything. Earth is basically depended on you guys sending back everything it needs, each republic/company has a different market with different rules and prices along with traffics. anything you can think of from metals to water, food and the like they will buy.

2.3 - AI is not that huge of a thing, everyday AI is about as smart as a 1st grader but cant learn much pass that. now the really smart but costly AI is a little bit better than a 7th grader in IQ, the problem is you need so much memory to let it learn anything that it will start deleting chucks just to keep learning [every day AI has a memory of 200 TB - 2,000 TB while the best AI have around 15,000 YB of memory, and they still delete large chunks of info [they also take up about 20 747s worth of room, common AI only take up as much as a desktop]. so no AI is still not a thing yet unless you plan on dumping tons of money into getting huge rooms full of memory chips [could do that]

2.5 what does this world look like? we really don't know yet as no one has arrived, we know humans can live there but we were running out of hyper energy and would not be able to send anyone over there for 1 cycle [1 year which is how often things can be sent back due to stellar movements and that stuff] so we sent you guys, it is a lot like earth.

Mass Drives fees - so MDs are expensive, one MD costs around 2 billion dollars, but in the long run that will save you tons of money. MD can only send goods once per year back to Sol due to how everything moves, and then they can only send a set amount back as well, so MD owners will set up an auction in order to have companies bid on spots, with the minimum bid being the base cost of using the MD, if more spots are needed than what they have then the lowest bids will be cut.

any more questions just ask, also if theres any grammar errors just point them out, I have almost failed English the past 5 years

Sounds like a neat idea, I am very interested! Would be nice to see a sample of what you envisage the stats looking like, by the by, perhaps with some sample companies?

Also can you tell us a little bit more about the world we're settling? Or possibly some backstory elements? When it's set, things that we might need to be aware of back on Earth, do we have FTL travel, what kinds of things sell well back home, how big a deal is AI, etc.

I'm also intrigued by "military goods", since there's obviously the implication of conflict (between players and/or natives, very exciting stuff) - what'll that be looking like?

Oh, and just a note in case you're after pinching things from the archives, one of our members ran a very interesting game called Free State you might want to check out for ideas :3

Sounds interesting, though the rules might need editing for clarity. Welcome, by the way!

Your post is one of the most recently posted threads in Game Ideas, there's no need to bump it mate :P

As a side note, do you have a plan for managing a game with so many numbers and variables? Plenty of games have come and gone over the years with both more numbers and less than your game seems to propose, and many of them have found it difficult to keep track of everything going on. Although it's also entirely possible you're just great with numbers hah

yes I do plan on doing all of the numbers in this game, most will be "X this turn, Y next turn] with the difference being a factor base off of demand. also I love numbers

ok so industries

Industries are what's going to make money for your company. there's six types [one of which only one person can control]
, transportation, tourism, Banking/banking hub, gathering, human services and manufacture. lets break down these into there subjects

Gathering

Low Risk
Low Reward

This will be the simplest, cheapest industry out there but also has the lowest return. this industry simplify harvests
stuff from the planet and turns it into sellable units that can be used in other industries.

Lets take water harvesting for example. The start up cost for a water farm would be [note prices not final] around $50,000 and
upkeep would be around $2,000 a turn [$4,000 per year]. This would produce around 100-250 units of water a turn. what you
do with this water is where things get interesting. you could either sell it as is and make a small profit [anywhere between lets
say $10,000-$20,000 per turn], you can use it for your people, making no profit but also not having to import water or you could
use it in one of the other industries to make even more profit.

Now there is a lot more to this industry, you could go into logging or mining for example and get more value, but with those you can
run out of the stuff your harvesting and have to relocate

Transportation

High Risk
High Reward

This industry right now is very simple [more will be added later]. If you control a MD you can charge people a fee for using said MD, making
a fairly large profit when times are good and all of the spaces are used up or end up sinking tons of money when times are bad due to not
filling up all of the spaces. more will be added to this industry as time passes.

more will be added soon
