Lebanese Civil War

Post by Master of Oblivion » 01:41:51 Thursday, 24 August, 2017

Just a heads up that I plan to run a Lebanese Civil War game sometime in the near future. Players will lead militias and armies in this complicated conflict.

My nomal instinct is for the UN... but Israel would be fun. Bit of bad-guys for once, so will reserve the IDF.

It will start in 1975, so a few factions will emerge (or maybe not) over the course of the game. I am still working on details for this game, players will take the role of the various militias in Lebanon or as the Israeli or Syrian forces. Other powers will have an offscreen role controlled by me as the gm.

I will put a hold on either the Lebanese National Movement [as the leader] or if you don't think I will do a good job with that then the Army of Free Lebanon (AFL)

Hmm. I think I'll do either the Independent Nasserite Movement or the SSNP. I'm okay with either really, not sure which I would like more.

Here's two links to help out anybody who is lost since the Lebanese Civil War was a total cluster fuck:

Thanks Neil, I have been using those plus a couple books.

@Lordmoose. The Lebanese National Movement is a coalition of warlords and militias. Each individual militia will be playable, so the national movement will be something akin to NATO (but hopefully with more backstabbing).

I am going to hold off on sign ups until I am a bit closer to running the game. I specifically need to figure out how I want to handle Syria and Israel.

Dunno how obscure you were looking to get (it looks like very?) but there's a few groups I have a very vague amount of information on, might be worth looking up since you were asking for more. In '75, you'd have the Lebanese Revolutionary Guard, a Maoist group that blew up an oil tanker in 1973, and promptly proceeded to do fuck all but ended up joining with some of the Sunnis, so might be interesting to have around. Equally obscure shit could be the Shibbu Gang (Lebanese Socialist Revolutionary Organization), but that's on its way out, these guys, and a fuckton of other obscure Palestinian shit.

I'd also make a case, as I have in the past, for the inclusion of the Abu Nidal Organization (or a small part of that already-small movement) since it infiltrated several Lebanese PLO camps and basically caused a ton of misery for like, literally everybody up until Arafat kicked their asses in the 90s.
