Allow guests to view the forums?

More or less what it says on the tin.

Allow guests to view the forums?

Post by Huojin » 22:05:44 Monday, 14 January, 2013

So we mentioned this before the administration election and now is as good a time as any to talk about it.

Currently guests can't see the boards. We should all know what it looks like, if you don't, just log out briefly. There were suggestions that we might have more sign ups if people could see what we do and things we post and whatnot, rather than is currently the situation.

Personally, I think it's a pretty good idea. Maybe keep "Administration", "GMing Information" under Game Ideas and the Archives hidden, but apart from that, it should be OK.

I am Ok with this, but yeah, only if we keep Announcements and Rules, Administration, Game Ideas and Archives under lock down.

I think I've already gone through why I'm against this.

I'm in favour of allowing all the game forums to be open to guests, but leave everything else hidden. The only thing guests really need to be able to see is the games - either they want to join for them, or they don't.
Game I: Republic of Indonesia
Game II: French Third Republic
Game III: Abibaal the Sailor

Balance of Power 1981: State of Israel
Battle for Anfan: Yizhou Clique
World War II BoP: Commonwealth of Australia

This pretty much covers my thoughts on the matter.

Edit: Although I would like to see the Game II/III situation resolved before we did it, as it'd be better for what would effectively be advertising purposes.

I don't see why we couldn't have Off Topic and Game Ideas visible. The former shows were more than just a games community, we talk about other stuff too, whilst the latter shows potential games we might run. We could get people interested in ideas in the works.

On the whole, I'm pretty unconcerned about people using our ideas. I'm only slightly more protective of our actual stats.

I think I'm with Huojin on this rather than Tsaeb. If you join this forum, the games are only part of what you're getting yourself into.
